III - Setting up the EPC-PSI Report Server

There is no charge for the EPC-PSI program. You are only charged for the EPC-PSI reports that you generate. These reports are generated by an "EPC-PSI Server". There are two types of server: the Internet Report Server and the Keydisk Report Server. You may use one or both servers.

  1. The EPC-PSI Internet Report Server
    1. About the EPC-PSI Internet Report Server.

Your computer connects to the EPC-PSI Internet Report Server via your internet connection. As you request reports, the Internet Report Server debits a charge from your EPC-PSI account.

With the Internet Report Server, you are always assured of receiving the latest version of EPC-PSI reports. The Internet Report Server will also keep your EPC-PSI Program updated to the latest version.

You must be connected to the Internet while you use the Internet Report Server. If you can view web pages with your web browser, you are connected to the internet.

    1. Setting up the EPC-PSI Internet Report Server.
      1. Start the EPC-PSI Program (See above).
      2. Click on the Options link.
      3. Click on the Account tab. Enter your EPC-PSI account and password. If you select Remember password you will have not to re-enter your password every time you start the EPC-PSI program.
      4. Click on the Internet Server tab. Select Use Internet Server.
      5. Click the Set button.
  2. The EPC-PSI Keydisk Report Server
    1. About the EPC-PSI Keydisk Report Server

The EPC-PSI Internet Keydisk Server generates reports from a pre-paid "Key Diskette". The key diskette contains authorization to produce a specified amount of reports. As you request reports, the Keydisk Report Server debits a charge from the pre-paid amount on the key diskette.

With the Keydisk Report Server, you are not required to be connected to the Internet when you produce reports. However, when your key disk runs out of report authorizations, you must order a new one by mail. Also, you must request EPC-PSI program updates by mail.

    1. Setting up the EPC-PSI Keydisk Report Server

When you receive your key diskette, you should install the report authorizations on your computer. Keep your key diskette in a safe place: you will need it for uninstallation.

    1. Start the EPC-PSI Program (See above).
    2. Click on the Options link.
    3. Click on the Key Disk tab.
    4. Insert your key diskette in the diskette drive.
    5. Click the Install button. It may take up to three minutes to install your key diskette. The EPC-PSI program will be unresponsive until installation is complete.
    6. Select Use Installed Key Disk.
    7. Click the Set button.
    8. Uninstalling a Key Diskette

When the report authorizations on your key diskette are used up, you should uninstall your old key diskette before installing a new key diskette. You may also uninstall a key diskette in order to move the report authorizations to another computer.

    1. Start the EPC-PSI Program (See above).
    2. Click on the Options link.
    3. Click on the Key Disk tab.
    4. Insert your key diskette in the diskette drive.
    5. Click the Uninstall button. It may take up to three minutes to uninstall your key diskette. The EPC-PSI program will be unresponsive until uninstallation is complete.
    6. Select Do not use Key Disk.
    7. Click the Set button.
    8. Authorizing reports directly from a Key Diskette

Instead of installing your key diskette, you may choose to authorize reports directly from the key diskette. This way, you can quickly move the key diskette from one computer to another. You can also secure the key diskette in a safe place, to prevent unauthorized persons from incurring report charges.

However, report authorizations direct from a key diskette are very slow. It may take up to one minute to authorize each report.
    1. Start the EPC-PSI Program (See above).
    2. Click on the Options link.
    3. Click on the Key Disk tab.
    4. Insert your key diskette in the diskette drive.
    5. Select Direct from diskette.
    6. Click the Set button.
  3. Using the EPC-PSI Internet and Keydisk Report Servers Together

You may switch between report servers at any time. Use EPC-PSI Options to enable or disable either the Internet Report Server or the Keydisk Report Server.

To control use of the Internet Report Server, go to the Internet Server tab, and select or unselect Use Internet Server

To control use of the Keydisk Report Server, go to the Keydisk Server tab, and select either Do not use Key Disk, Use Installed Key Disk, or Direct from Diskette.

If both the Internet Server and the Keydisk Server are enabled, the EPC-PSI program will use the Internet Server if the computer is connected to the Internet, otherwise it will use the Keydisk Server.
